Falling means ruin and demise as well as love and abandon, passion and surrender, decline and catastrophe. Falling is corruption as well as liberation, a condition that turns people into things and vice versa. It takes place in an opening we could endure or enjoy, embrace or suffer, or simply accept as reality.

Digressions sur l’ascension, la suspension et la chute des satellites artificiels
research-creation project tutored by Gwenola Wagon
In the framework of my current PhD program at University Paris VIII, I am carrying out a research-creation project on the theme of material infrastructures of telecommunications. Starting from a strong interest in the socio-political aspects of digital artistic creation, but also in the ecological aspects of the materiality of technological media, I am carrying out research around two main issues.

The first concerns the representation and representability of the planet through technology. In this regard, I am questioning the influence of the images of the Earth on our ecological ethics and our relationship with the cosmos. The second concerns the question of the materiality of technological devices as the focus of non-anthropocentric discourse. My hypothesis aims to challenge the illusion of an ‘empty’ space and of an ‘immaterial’ virtuality, which often justify toxic and unsustainable
expansionist logics.

In my research, I seek answers to these questions by following the vital trajectory of an artificial satellite: from its launch, to its
stationing in orbit, to its fall or fragmentation. I insist on the primacy of the imaginary and recurrent ideological schemes over the
representative and perceptual limits of space. I also aim to highlight the way in which speculation, fiction and ideologies become part of the choices of innovation and techno-scientific progress.

[P]ro-space ideology retains the power that only a full-blown theory of progress can possess.
